Governor Radda Enlists Katsina Chiefs, Imams into Insecurity Fight with Monthly Allowance

To boost stakeholders' participation in the fight against insecurity, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has announced that Chief Imams of Juma'at mosques, and their deputies, together with Mua'dhins (callers of prayers) and Wards' Heads in Katsina State, will be placed on special allowance.

Radda revealed this when he inaugurated the Steering Committee for the Katsina Community Watch Corps across the 34 local government areas of the State.

A statement by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the Governor's spokesman, explained that the allowance remuneration for the Wards' Heads, and Imams, together with their deputies and Mua'dhins is aimed at enlisting local communities and religious leaders into the war against banditry and other security crisis in the State.

While speaking at the event, Governor Radda said the steering committee inaugurated, was in line with the law establishing the Watch Corps.

"The Committee will be responsible for collaborating with other security personnel in pounding bandits and other criminals across Katsina.
    
"Members of the local government steering committees include Council Chairmen, District Heads, Divisional Police Officers, representatives of various security agencies, and two representatives of the business community in the area, as well as the representative of religious sects," he said.

He added that, among several of its mandates, the committee will monitor and evaluate the operation of the Community Watch Corps and present a monthly report to the Office of the State Commissioner for Internal Security, on the security situation from their respective areas.
   
Earlier, Katsina State's Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu'azu Danmusa, said that insecurity is gradually waning across the State, since the birth of the Community Watch Corps by the Dikko Radd-led administration.
  
In their separate remarks, the representative of the Emir of Katsina and Kauran Katsina, Alhaji Aminu Nuhu Abdulkadir; and the Galadiman Katsina and District Head of Malumfashi, retired Justice Saddik Abdullahi Mahuta, among others appreciated Governor Radda for taking proactive steps to end banditry and general insecurity in the State. 

They pledged to support the steering committee to actualize its mandates.
